Europe: Britons in most debt

If you discount mortgages we owe around £3,000 each, according to the latest figures from business research group Datamonitor. That's double most of the Continent.

100,000 under 24's are having to pay off at least £5,000 on their cards. Researchers say a lot of it is down to our buy now, pay later attitude.

Many countries in Europe have a culture of saving cash and not getting into debt. So why is it such a big problem here?
